AF Termination: the Holy Grail of Persistent AF Ablation?

The optimal catheter ablation approach for longstanding persistent atrial fibrillation (AF) remains elusive despite significant advances made in our understanding of this arrhythmia. A recent systematic review highlighted the significant variation in procedural success rate both within and between techniques, necessitating repeat ablation procedures and anti-arrhythmic drugs to achieve improved...

Hot Potatoes in AF

Western society is at the brink of an atrial fibrillation (AF) explosion. Already AF is the most common sustained arrhythmia worldwide; in the US alone the estimated prevalence in 2010 was between 2.7 to 6.1 million, and this is expected to rise to between 5.6 and 12 million by 2050 [1]. The source of this increase is multifactorial and our current ability to manage the condition is often subop...

Examining social interaction patterns for online apprenticeship learning Object-oriented programming as the knowledge domain

English Abstract The article shows and discusses social interaction patterns that developed in an online learning environment where the pedagogical design was inspired by ideas found in apprenticeship learning. The embedded study comprised a case study of an introductory online course on object-orientation and a design experiment carried out in the same course in the following semester. The cas...

Neurofeedback with fMRI: A critical systematic review.

Neurofeedback relying on functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI-nf) heralds new prospects for self-regulating brain and behavior. Here we provide the first comprehensive review of the fMRI-nf literature and the first systematic database of fMRI-nf findings. We synthesize information from 99 fMRI-nf experiments-the bulk of currently available data. The vast majority of fMRI-nf findings sugg...
